We finally have our team meets set up. Everyone is required to attend the meets. Only 3-4 fencers in each squad will fence the meets. If you aren't fencing you are expected to watch, learn and cheer the team on. I've added the dates to the treat schedule.
January 12th - We'll leave at 3:45 to go to Roseville Area High School - You'll need to get your own ride home.
January 29th - At Blake. We'll leave SPA around 4:00 and return by 7 - I hope!
February 11th - At MN Sword Club. We'll leave SPA around 3:45 and return around 6:30

JO Qualifiers
JO Qualifiers are coming up fast, Sunday December 7th. Go to http://askfred.net/Events/Prereg/prereg.php?tournament_id=6957 to preregister. If this is your first year you don't have to fence this meet, but please stop by to watch and cheer on the team. Please register today, the organizers need to know the final numbers so they can plan to have enough referees and then we don't have to spend the entire day there. You can fence and then leave when you're done. If we have enough team members qualify we can plan a team trip to New Mexico to compete in the Junior Olympics.
Events Scheduled: - Remember you can fence more than one event if you fall into both age catagories.

Squad Practices
Thank you to everyone who completed the team survey and told me which days you could not attend practice. I am putting the squad schedules together this weekend, I'll email them out to you when they're done. Squad practices will start next week. If you are fencing JO Qualifiers on Sunday the 7th, you may want to come to practice everyday. Our plan for next week is to start with blade drills and let those of you fencing on Sunday use the electrical equipment while the rest of us work on the basics.

E-Mails
I've just spent a very frustrating few hours typing in the emails to the fencing list. Since there are over 50 people signed up for fencing, it's a large list. I send it out BCC, but many of your e-mail providers consider it SPAM and won't let me send it to you. So if you're not getting the team e-mails, email me directly and we'll see if that help matter or just read the blog. I update it as I send out the team email.
T-shirt Contest
We sell t-shirts at the SPA Invitational Meet, I usually design them and I'm out of ideas. Submit your idea to me by December 1st and if it's chosen you'll get a free shirt.
Guidelines - It should be one color on a grey, white or navy background. It should also have a Spartan somewhere - maybe fencing. It should say SPA Invitational and the date somewhere - January 17th, 2009. That's it - the rest is up to you!
We are starting up again!
Bob sent his email, before we could just send one. Hopefully everyone is on this email list. If you don't want to receive the SPA emails any more please let me know. I will email at least once a week so everyone knows what is going on. If you are a fencer, it is your responsibility to check your e-mail, not your parents. Any emergency information will get emailed out, so please check often.
Practice this week starts Monday at 4. Middle school doesn't have school that day, so they don't have practice. Full team practices for the rest of the week. We'll mainly do conditioning and hand out the equipment on Thursday. Our first practice with equipment in on Monday the 24th. We only have practice Monday and Tuesday that week. Up until Thanksgiving everyone will practice everyday - it's only 7 days.
Squad practices will start on December 1st. To help save a tree, I'm going to add the usual team questionare at the end of this email, please fill it out and return it to me by the 21st, so I can plan the practice days.
Our first meet is on, Sunday, December 7th - not very far away. You need to have your equipment, and your USFA membership by that day. If you need another copy of the team expectations and what to buy letter let me know. Everyone, but first years is expected to fence this meet. At these meets, you can fence and then leave when you're done. Only the coaches need to spend the day there. You can register now at www.askfred.net. If you don't know how to do it, ask a friend that does, or bring your laptop to practice and I can help you.
At the mandatory meeting on Saturday we started the treat sign up fo the year. There is a lot of blanks, please let me know what dates you can help out on. We need to fill up the 12-7 date first. I'm Ok with anything kids will eat for treats - bagels, granola bars, cookies, fruit, cakes, candy.... For the all day meets we'll need sandwiches to help fuel us through.
